What is life like after PAA? What do our alumni do once they get home? These are the things you’re dying to know! Never fear. We’ve started asking for updates and well, let’s just say it turns out awesome people continue being awesome even after they’ve moved on from PAA.
Today’s Alum: Georgie Giannopoulos, Music Volunteer in Costa Rica, ’14
What’s something exciting happening in your life? Going to school? Graduating from school? Working? Living the Dream?
I’ve currently finished my second year at Queen’s University studying politics and history and will be starting my third year in September. This summer I’ve accepted an internship in Toronto with the Mackenzie Institute, a political security think tank.
Have you performed since you got back?
I’ve been playing violin in the Queen’s Symphony Orchestra for two years now. We average four concerts a year, one of them being a benefit concert. This year the theme for the fundraiser was “A Night at the Proms”. The orchestra, choir, and vocalists dressed in formal wear and the theme took us back to Old Britain. The night was sold out! Queen’s has also been lucky enough to secure a private donation to build a new concert hall, which the orchestra uses for its rehearsals and concert. The acoustics and space are a huge upgrade from what we previously used.
Have you done any traveling since your PAA program?
I haven’t done any serious traveling since my PAA program but I’ve been lucky enough to visit Orlando, Florida and Los Angeles, California for short vacations.
Thanks Georgie!
